Joan Fay Rodriguez Lucio passed into eternal life peacefully at home on January 22, 2024, at the age of 92. Joan was born on September 27, 1931 in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of River Ridge, LA for over 56 years. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Benjamin A. Lucio. Joan retired from United Airlines in 1996 after working several years as an administrative assistant in their New Orleans International Airport office. However, she will be greatly remembered and cherished as a loving wife, a wonderful mother, a doting grandmother, and a loyal sister and friend. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by her three sons, David A. Lucio, Dr. Daniel C. Lucio (Michelle) and Michael S. Lucio (Bonnie), her grandsons, Jonathan, Stephen, Henri, Samuel, and Michael Lucio, her granddaughter, Jessica Pixberg (Tim) and her great-grandson, Weston Pixberg. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Rodriguez Sr., Glenda Evans, Suzanne Duthu, A. Charles Rodriguez, and Yvonne Dietz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She also is preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Acheé Rodriguez and Alphonse Rodriguez Sr., her brothers, Leo Rodriguez, Russell Rodriguez Sr., and Alphonse Rodriguez Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Alonzo Lucio.
The family wishes to thank Joan’s wonderful caregivers over the last four years, Sue Rippy, Althea Baldwin, Karen Gatlin, and Hannah Denny. In addition, we thank Heart of Hospice for the great care they provided.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge, LA. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA. Please consider Masses or donations in Joan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
