Joan Maxwell Kelly Florez, age 91, of Metairie, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She was born to the late Alma Fitzpatrick Maxwell and John J. Maxwell, Sr. She was the devoted wife to the late George F. Kelly, Jr., and by second marriage to the late Andrew L. Florez; she is preceded in death by her son Quentin Kelly; granddaughter Yvonne Kelly; her siblings Alma Braud, John J. Maxwell, Jr., William L. Maxwell, Catherine Robin and her brother Gerard Maxwell.
Joan is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Kelly; her son George F. "Rick" Kelly III; her step-children Rev. Andrew L. Florez, Sandra Marr (Bill), Anthony Florez (Ida Rose), Art Florez; her grandchildren Joe Stutson (Alli), Alex Kelly (Josefine), William Kelly (Anne), Keira Kelly, her step-grandchildren Jeff Marr (Sara), Ginny Marr, Will Marr, George, Charissa, and David Heckard; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan was a longtime resident of Metairie. A graduate of Loyola University, she went on to retire as a teacher after 30 years of dedicated service. She was affiliated with the Republican Women of Jefferson Parish, and the AARP chapter 4417. A parishioner of St. Ann, she was very active in the parish; dedicating her time as a Eucharistic Minister, The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program, along with her second husband Andrew, they were counselors in the remarriage program with the Archdiocese for over 10 years. Joan also helped to keep her faith strong through the St. Clement of Rome Divine Mercy prayer group for 40 years.
A Visitation will be held Friday, February 4, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. A Memorial Mass for Joan will begin at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will immediately follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum and Cemetery, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana.
