McCready, M.D., James Melvin - Passed away at his home at age 85 on October 01, 2015, surrounded by his family from complications incidental to age. He is survived by his loving wife Edwina Chassaniol McCready. They have been married for 56 years, marrying on January 24, 1959 at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans. He was a loving and amazing father to his daughter Laura McCready Pizani and his two sons Jimmie and Stephen McCready, devoted grandfather to Kathleen Barnes and Austin McCready, father-in-law of Tracy McCready and Troy Pizani, and future daughter-in-law Jamie Colosimo Youd. He is also survived by his niece Patsy as well as two nephews Michael and Timmy in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his 2 wonderful parents Edna & Melvin George McCready, his brother, Gene, mother-in-law Lucille Vicknair Chassaniol, father-in-law Edwin Chassaniol, sister-in-law Vesta Marie McCready, aunt-in-law Rita Vicknair Giangrosso and uncle-in-law Walter Vicknair. He graduated from Lillis High School and Rockhurst University, both in Kansas City, Missouri. His favorite past time was playing football & baseball in his youth in Kansas City. He was a Major in the Army National Guard early in his career. He attended Tulane Medical School and then did his OB-GYN residency in New Orleans where he continued to live and practice his profession. Dr. McCready was the football physician for Sam Barthe High School and John Curtis Christian High School football teams. He was an OB-GYN physician for nearly 40 years where he brought thousands of children into the world. He did medical missionary work in Nicaragua with the local Catholic Mission. Dr. McCready enjoyed tennis, woodworking, carpentry, photography, videography, snorkeling and shell collecting. He was an excellent magician, which was a hobby he was very passionate about. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and competed in Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and the United States. The family would like to recognize the loving care and support provided to our father by Cynthia Collins, Barbara Brown and Chanda Sandifer at A First Name Basis Home Care of Metairie, and also, Maple Storey and Debra Selman of Central Home Health of Metairie. Additionally, they would also like to recognize Ameracare Hospice and the 5th floor cardiac step down unit at East Jefferson Hospital. Our thanks also goes to the outstanding staff at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home for their detailed, attentive and patient service who are handling the arrangements for our dad. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate his life by attending the Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of life to be conducted by Father Finn at LEITZ-EAGAN Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 3:00 pm - Visitation will be from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. A private family burial will follow at a later date. The family wishes to invite you to a gathering celebrating his life at 4901 Sunny Place, Metairie, LA following the mass.
