

Jacqueline “Jackie” Hirstius Firmin, age 88, entered into eternal rest at Lacombe Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 4, 1936 to the late Ella Baggett Hirstius and Thomas Hirstius, Sr.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Benedict “Buck” Firmin, Jr., daughter, Lori F. Delatte (the late Gary), and brothers, Charles Hirstius, Sr. and Thomas Hirstius, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her lifelong friends, Joycelyn Latour Broggi and Olga Spreen Smith.
She is survived by her children, Bruce B. Firmin (Jodi) and Kerri F. Tholen (Carl), grandchildren, Ashleigh Madden (Paul), Bruce Firmin, Jr. (Brandy), Kaitlyn Tholen (fiancé, Peter Doley), and Kristen Tholen, and great-grandchildren, Davis and Beau Madden and Evelyn Firmin. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Mondebello, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Firmin was a native of New Orleans, a former resident of Metairie, and a resident of Lacombe for the past 30 years. She was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School and was an active member of the VFW Drum & Bugle Corps. She worked at T.A.C. Amusement Company and retired from Whitney National Bank. Her children remember her as an incredible mom, who was also a mother to everyone around her. Jackie was a giving person who always welcomed everyone into her home with a warm meal and good game of cards. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She will be profoundly missed but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 AM – 11 AM with a funeral Mass to begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
