Jack Fisher died peacefully on June 17, 2012 at the age of ninety. He was surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy (Dotsy) Fisher and his four children, Briann Shear (Mel), Marc Fisher (Jimmie Kay), Jodi Levitan (Scott) and Ricki Fisher. He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Born October 29, 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was the youngest child of the late Max Fisher and Pauline Goodman Fisher. He was the brother of the late Dr. Israel Fisher and Gertrude Fisher Lassen.
He moved to New Orleans in 1940 where he owned and operated Lane’s Shoe Store from 1940 until 1983. During that period he served in the Pacific theater with the 306th Airdrome Squadron. Forty-seven years after returning stateside, the group reunited and started to have annual reunions. He faithfully attended these events and became lifelong friends with the members of the unit.
In 1974, he joined Latter & Blum Real Estate and became a Realtor specializing in commercial sales and leasing. He enjoyed great success in this chosen field and gained an amazing reputation for his vigor, knowledge, honesty, fairness and his ability to close transactions. He was noted throughout the community for completing the most commercial transactions in the city of New Orleans for thirteen consecutive years.
Jack was a good person who lived by high standards. He was blessed with longevity, a loving family and friends.
Our thanks go to his many caregivers, especially Willie Porter, Herman Moore and Burdella Battie. We sincerely thank the devoted personnel at Canon Hospice for their loving care. Their kindness gave him much peace and comfort in his closing days.
