Harold Simmons passed away Tuesday, December13, 2011, in Baton Rouge at the age of 90. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, but spent most of his life in New Orleans. He was a practicing Christian Scientist whose faith was very important to him. Harold was a gifted athlete who played sports for many years and then became an active supporter of his children and grandchildren. He retired from South Central Bell with 37 years of service.
Survived by a daughter, Sandra Ainsworth and her husband Ollie; son, Harold, Jr.; grandchildren Kelley Ainsworth Powell; Kevin Ainsworth and wife Paulette; Kurt Ainsworth and wife Angie; Eric Simmons; and Michael Simmons. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Beau Roberton; a sister-in-law, Carol Simmons; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gloria; his parents, Henry Earle and Winnie Simmons; a brother, Edgar Simmons; and a sister, Mae Davis.
Visitation at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, on Friday, December 16, 2011, from 10:00am until religious services at 11:00am conducted by Rev. Ken Carroll. Interment in Garden of Memories Mausoleum.
