Grady C. Dinwiddie passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Born on May 30, 1927 in Paris, TN, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Priestly Carlton Dinwiddie. Beloved husband of the late Adne Vane Stewart Dinwiddie, they were united in marriage on September 2, 1948. He is survived by two daughters, Debra Voss (Fred), Slidell, and Anita Dinwiddie, Dallas, TX, a son, Glen Dinwiddie (Debbie), Kenner, and six grandchildren, Victor Voss, Brandi Voss, Rebecca Aiken, Benjamin Aiken, Gregory Dinwiddie and Christina Swicegood (Andrew). He is also survived by two sisters, Peggy Derrington and Mollie Dinwiddie, Warrensburg, MO and two nieces, Elise Barry (Will) and Erin Niemeyer and two great-nephews.
Grady enlisted in the U.S. Army after completing high school at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, Houston, TX, in December 1945. He served until 1947 working as a medical technician with wounded WWII soldiers. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the College of Arts and Science of Tulane University in 1950 and worked for a short time as a chemist. He had a long career in the pharmaceutical industry working for Lakeside Pharmaceuticals and later B.F. Ascher and Co., Inc., retiring in 1992.
Grady enjoyed music and was a 40+ year member of the Mardi Gras Chorus of the Greater New Orleans chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. As a retiree he was a volunteer income tax preparer assisting other retired individuals to complete their tax forms. An avid follower of local, state, and national politics, he contributed to various campaigns across the nation supporting those whose political agendas he believed were in the best interest of the country, regardless of the political party affiliation of the individual. Grady was a founding member of Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church since it was formed in May 1965. He sang in the choir there as well and at various times served as a deacon and elder of the church.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 3810 Power Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana 70003, on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.
