George Stevens “Stevie” “Red” Rafferty, passed away on May 8, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born in New Orleans, to the late Martina Daly Rafferty and George Theodore Rafferty, he was raised in the Irish Channel. Red graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1945. Brother of the late Alice Rafferty Brechtel and Jane Rafferty Luquet.
He was a beloved husband to the late, Gloria Pecoraro Rafferty. Father of Sharen R. Kelley, Colleen A. Rafferty, Kathleen A. Rafferty, Michele K. Freeling, and Lynda M. Damiata. Grandfather of Dr. Kara Kelley Lyons (Marc), David Ronald Morell II, and Raymond George Morell. Great Grandfather of David (Moose) Morell III, Hayven Morell, Braelynn Morell, Lleyton Lyons, London Lyons, and a host of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stevie served honorably for 20 years in the Louisiana Army National Guard, 141st Field Artillery, Alpha Battery, stationed at Jackson Barracks, New Orleans from June 1948 to June 1968. During his military career, among his many duties, he also served as a Battery Clerk, First Sergeant, and retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was also a long time member of the Washington Artillery Veterans Association. Stevie worked at Chiquita Brands, United Fruit Company, Maritrop Trading Company until his retirement. He was a former parishioner of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church and of late, was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, and a resident of Kenner for the past 62 years.
The family would like to thank the Henican House for taking care of Stevie for the last few months.
Funeral Services will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow immediately at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of George Stevens Rafferty to Our Lady of Divine Providence School, 917 N. Atlanta Street, Metairie, LA 70003.
