George John Mahl, III entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born on May 14, 1944 in Memphis, TN, where his father was stationed in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was the oldest of three children born to the late Shirley Parker Mahl and George John Mahl, Jr. He was a longtime resident of Jefferson Parish and spent the majority of his life residing in Harahan, LA.
Since graduating from LSU in 1967 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, George’s career grew and he accomplished many achievements. He was a professional Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, owned his own consulting business, Mahl and Associates, and was licensed in several states: Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Nevada and California. He enjoyed working and even at the age of 80, he was involved in day-to-day operations until last month. George was involved in many organizations: Louisiana Engineering Society, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Deutsches Haus, Round Table Club, Rotary Club and the Swiss-American Society of New Orleans just to name a few. He had many hobbies throughout his life and was always willing to try something new. In his younger days, George enjoyed fishing and hunting with his cousins. Throughout his adulthood, he became an avid skier and participated in annual ski trips with friends and family to Colorado, Utah, Montana, and Canada. In his last decade, George took up sailing and began taking flying lessons. He lived life to the fullest.
George was the devoted husband of 57 years to Yvonne Jones Mahl. Loving father of Michele M. Plaisance (Darrin), George B. Mahl (Samantha) and Ann M. Inderbitzin (Rolf). Caring grandfather of five beautiful grandchildren, two step grandchildren and great-grandfather to one. Brother of Robert Mahl (Debbie) and Kathleen Mahl. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation for George on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy. Harahan, LA 70123, followed by a funeral Mass. Interment will take place at Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans.
