George Wilson “Will” Fortenberry, 63, passed away in Houston, TX on Thursday, August 30, 2012. He was a native New Orleanian who attended USL, and from there, he enlisted in the US Army. He served in Vietnam with the 71st Assault Helicopter Company 14th Aviation Batallion (“Rattlers”) from 1970-1971 as a helicopter crewman. Upon returning from Vietnam, he graduated from SLU with a BA in Business Education and from UNO with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was a registered Civil and Petroleum Engineer and an active member of SPE and API. He is an alumnus of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He also served in the LA National Guard with the 812 Medical Detachment (Air Ambulance).
Will spent 26 years with Halliburton and retired in 2005 as V.P. of South East Asia. He later worked for Cetco and was currently V.P. of Business Development with Triton Diving.
Will is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughter, Kristen Elizabeth Fortenberry; son, Timothy Jon Fortenberry; sister, Shirley Fortenberry Werner; brother Jasper Sheldon Fortenberry and sister JoAnn Fortenberry Dobson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jasper S. and Mary Belle Fortenberry and sister, Loretta Fortenberry Hamilton.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm.
