Francis Roy Daigle, Jr., born December 29, 1933, died surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 2, 2024, of congestive heart failure at his home in Metairie, LA. Beloved husband of Gail Perelli Daigle for 68 years. Father of Susan D. Scotton, the late David M. Daigle, and infant children Roy, Bradley, Tommy, and Mary Anne. Son of the late Francis R. Daigle, Sr. and Carmen Tregre Daigle. Father-in-law of James K. Scotton. Grandfather of David J. Scotton, his wife Piper and the late Michael and John David Deister. Also survived by his sister, Carmen (Lady) Schexnaydre, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers and their wives, Edmond and Carolyn Ganucheau Daigle, Paul and Carol Gordy Daigle; his brother-in-laws, Dayton (Joe) Schexnaydre, Donald W. Perelli, Jr. and his wife Norma Kain Perelli.
A native of New Orleans and resident of Metairie for the past 59 years, he graduated from St. Rose de Lima in 1947, Jesuit High School in 1951, and Louisiana State University in 1955. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. A petroleum engineer with Chevron Oil Co. for 32 years, he retired in 1986. He was a founding parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church and served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and CCD teacher. He was a member of the SCR Men's Club, SCR Guild, and Adoration Chapel. He was involved in the Boy Scouts as a Webelo den leader and Cub Master. He delivered meals-on-wheels and was a 54-gallon platelet donor. He was a Manresa retreatant for many years and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and the last president of Emile Daigle Realty Co. Roy and his wife received the Order of St. Louis Medallion and over the years had been active in Marriage preparation, Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, Supper and Substance, Handicapped Encounter Christ, Louisiana Right to Life, and the Chevron Retirees Ass'n., and belonged to a couple sharing group for over 40 years. He was a member of the Monday morning ROMEOS and the Jesuit class of '51 Lunch Bunch. He will be remembered for his periodic online “Dear family” memoirs.
Visitation at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 3990 W. Esplanade Ave, Metairie, LA, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10:00 am until the Funeral Mass at noon. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
