Florita "Flo" Hecker

Florita "Flo" Wingerter Hecker, at the age of 100, passed away peacefully and went to rest eternally with the Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2021. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Fisher and son Thomas Hecker, Jr. (Lisa), as well as her sister Helen Nicholas. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rose Wingerter, her husband Thomas Hecker, Sr., her two brothers Frank "Winnie" Wingerter, Charles Wingerter, and five sisters Ismay Shields, Dorothy Downey, Rose Wingerter, Florence Anderson and Theresa Maloney and her son-in-law Gerald Fisher. She was a loving grandmother to Daryl Fisher (Charlene), Patrick Fisher, Sr. (Rhonda), Melissa DeRamus (Kevin), Patrice Mills (Ron), Michelle Amriel and Dawn Farrell (Jeff) and great-grandchildren Patrick Jr., Jeffrey, Mariel, Jared, Jacob, Madelyn, Lillian, Caroline, John Thomas, Meredith, Chase, Jeffrey III and Juston. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was born in New Orleans on September 18, 1920 and grew up in the Irish Channel. She was an avid gardener, amazing artist and talented seamstress and crochetier. Many marveled at her creative talents. Above all, she was a devout Catholic with an unwavering prayer life. She was called on by many for prayers and special intentions. She, along with her husband, were founding members of St. Matthew the Apostle Church in River Ridge. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Peristyle Residences, where she resided over the past two years. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 12:00 pm at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of services. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie.
