Emile A. Hussey passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Josephine LaCava Hussey, his “Queenie”, for 67 wonderful years. He proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. A painter by trade, he worked for many years at Arthur J. Matthews and Sons, until retiring in 1983. His expertise in gold leaf painting, which he was very proud of, could be found in many of the churches in the New Orleans area, as well as on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. He was also a devoted parishioner of St. Rita Catholic Church in Harahan, where he was always ready to lend a hand doing painting jobs for the church.
Emile was predeceased by his parents, Frank Hussey and Amelia Maechling Hussey, and his sister, Rita Hussey Werner. He is survived by his nephew, Anthony P. Cado, nieces Sandra A. Cado and Cynthia C. Robinson, as well as a host of other nieces and nephews, who affectionately knew him as “Uncle Melie”. He will also be missed by his longtime neighbors and friends, especially Bernie Delhom,
Les Messer, Pat Trahan, and the crew at Koz’s Restaurant.
Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s of Harahan for their professional care and kindness, and to the Hospice Associates of New Orleans. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a resident of Harahan, Louisiana for the past 57 years.
Relatives and Friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass from Leitz-Eagan Funeral Chapel 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie, Louisiana on Tuesday December 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
