Eileen Gerding Latapie

Eileen Gerding Latapie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the age of 75. She was born in New Orleans on August 4, 1947 to the late Charles R. and Mary Louise Gerding. She married the love of her life, Alan J. Latapie on April 22, 1967 and was happily married for 55 years. She is also survived by her two loving daughters: Michele L. Eichhorn (Bobby) and Melissa L. O’Connor (Darrin), and her beloved grandchildren Blake Eichhorn, Chad Eichhorn, Sophia O’Connor, Liam O’Connor, Colleen O’Connor, and Mason Bonnaffons. Eileen is the sister of Linda G. Breun (late Raymond) who was also her best friend and devoted caretaker, and Charles R. Gerding Jr. (Lynn). Eileen was the office manager to the late Stanley C. Simons, DDS for 35 years and enjoyed the lifelong friendships she made while working. An avid gardener, neighbors often stopped to chat with her as she “piddled” in her yard. Eileen enjoyed family beach trips, autumn trips to the Smokies, spending time with her friends, shopping, and playing cards with her special Tuesday Night Card ladies. She never missed the important events in her children and grandchildren’s lives and was their biggest fan encouraging them to always pursue their dreams big and small. With grateful hearts, the family would like to extend a special thanks to all of those who hosted and attended Rosaries, sent cards, food, Masses, flowers, visited, and called Eileen during the last few months. Your kindnesses touched her soul and brightened her days more than you will ever know. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of her beautiful life at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Ave. (corner of W. Esplanade) Metairie, LA 70002 on Saturday, September 24, 2022 beginning at 10:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Noon by the very Reverend Luis Rodriguez. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Second Harvest Food Bank.
