Dorothy Iva Clare Crosby Heaton was called to the arms of her heavenly father on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the age of 85. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John A. "Jack" Heaton, a son Robert Edward Heaton, her parents, Mae Iva Williams and James Henly Crosby, her brothers, James H. F. Crosby and John L. Crosby, and her daughter in law, Mary Weimer Heaton.
A native and longtime resident of New Orleans and Metairie, Dorothy moved to Madisonville, LA in 2008. A graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School, Dorothy was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, serving in many leadership positions. Dorothy was an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Kenner, LA and more recently at St. Anselm in Madisonville, LA. She is a retired employee of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. During her service at Family Life Apostolate, Dorothy especially enjoyed working on the Jubilee mass celebrating milestone anniversaries at St Louis Cathedral.
She is survived by five children and twelve grandchildren: John F. and Fran Haymon Heaton, and their children, Jack Heaton with his wife Sylvia Szentpetery, Erika Heaton, Anne Heaton with her husband Paul Duhon, Hunter Bates, Houston Bates and Ann Bates; Timothy J. Heaton; Matthew J. Heaton and his son, Robert; Dorothy Heaton Mattison and E. Craig Mattison and their sons Edward, Henry and Chase; and Joy Heaton Martin and Michael J. Martin and their sons, Daniel and Joseph. Dorothy felt especially blessed to have two great grandchildren, Jacques and Marie Duhon. She is also survived by her beloved cousin Joy van Meerveld and a treasured host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017, continuing at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Anselm Church,306 St. Mary St., Madisonville. The funeral Mass celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Frank J. Giroir and Rev. Msgr. Harry J. Bugler will begin at 12:00 p.m. at St. Anselm. Private Interment will be Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carrollton.
