Donald G. Romig, age 91, died on December 6, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Joan Romig, his children Donna Burroughs, Peggy Zeiss (John), Patti Still (James) and Leaman Romig (Teresa). 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Step-children, grandchildren & great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dagmar Lagasse Romig, first wife Elizabeth Romig, brother Merlin Romig, sister-in-law Joy Romig and grandchild, Christian Romig.
Donald was a veteran of the Korean War.
He retired from the South Central Bell in 1989 after 40 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 137 and served as Commander in 1981-82. He was also a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. He served as president of the Bonnabel Civic Association in 2001-03. His favorite hobby was fishing, shrimping and crabbing, but he also enjoyed participating in the night bowling leagues at the old Paradise Lanes in Metairie and Don Carter Lanes in Kenner.
Many thanks to his nurses Kelly Albritton and Debbie Miller for their wonderful care for 6 years and to his Hospice Nurse Linda Jacobs who gave him such wonderful and comforting care. Also his sitter Jacinta Smith who took care of him for 4 ½ years. Special thanks to Diane Bourgeois, owner of Serenity Senior Residence and her staff who gave him extra special care. This is where he spent the last year of his life. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial gathering at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Saturday morning, December 11. 2021 beginning at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
