Don Anthony Farrell

Don Anthony Farrell passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 81 at home surrounded by family after a brave battle with dementia. Don was born December 18, 1942, in New Orleans, LA. to Omer and Mary Farrell.

He attended grade school in Metairie and New Orleans before graduating from Delgado Trades and Technical School in 1959 with a degree in Architectural Drafting. Over the next 45 years, Don, being a jack of all trades, worked for several companies including the New Orleans Housing Authority, Warren Refrigeration, Burger King/Charter House, HVAC Technologies, TG&Y/McCory’s and Sears Home Improvements before retiring as a plant engineer for Tulane University.

Don married the love of his life, Hannelore Rogers Farrell at the age of 21 and together raised two beautiful children, Donna Farrell Blanchard and Daniel Patrick Farrell (Christine). He was a devoted and proud “Pop” and “Paw-Paw” to his four granddaughters, Katie and Klaire Blanchard and Shannon and Cameron Farrell. Don was preceded in death by his father, Omer Charles Farrell, his mother, Mary Hurley Farrell, his brother, Glenn Joseph Farrell and his daughter, Donna Farrell Blanchard.

Don spent most of his time in his retirement years at their farm in Franklinton, LA. “The Farrell Farm” (est. 1988) was Don’s refuge from busy suburbia, where he enjoyed the simple life of growing crops, fixing old tractors and caring for countless dogs (all stray dogs in Washington Parish found him).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 9:00am until 11:00am followed by a Funeral Mass.
