Delphine “Dell” Mae Aucoin Parra passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 26, 1930, to her parents, Joseph A. Aucoin and Sedonia Cousins Aucoin. Raised in New Orleans, Dell attended Redemptorist Parochial School before earning her diploma from Redemptorist High School. Dell went on to New Orleans public school's evening school to complete her certification in prescribed fashion design. She also received a certification in commercial art from Delgado College in 1968.
Dell was a devout Catholic throughout her life who served as a Lay Carmelite of St. Joseph at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for many years. She was named formation director and taught religious instruction to Lay Carmelite candidates to prepare them for final Profession. She was committed to living the Carmelite way of life, demonstrating her love of God, family, friends and neighbors every day.
Dell was a creative person who had many talents and hobbies including reading, drawing, painting and sewing, just to name a few. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family to Europe and many other destinations. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends playing cards, cooking, entertaining, taking her many nieces and nephews to the circus, sporting events and to see Disney movies. She will always be remembered for her strong faith in God, kindness, compassion and willingness to help anyone in need.
Dell was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, the late Joseph A. Parra (d. 1994), her mother, Sedonia, her father, Joseph, her sister, Rose Comeaux, a brother-in-law, George Comeaux, Sr., a brother, Jerald Aucoin, brother-in-law, Ronnie Marretta, nephew Chris Marretta and aunt Lydia Cousins.
She is survived by her sister, Joanne Marretta, sister-in-law, Brenda Aucoin, stepsons, Tony Parra, Allen Parra, Dennis Parra; seven step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by and lovingly remembered by her nephews, George Comeaux Jr., Steven Comeaux, Joseph Comeaux, Brian Comeaux, Kenny Comeaux, Jerald, Jr. “Jay “Aucoin, Albert Aucoin, Eric Aucoin, Kevin Aucoin, David Marretta, Troy Marretta and nieces, Stacy Simoneaux, SharonAnn Dean and Ellen Aucoin.
Visitation for Delphine will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Cypress Grove Cemetery.
