David Joseph Guillot

A native of Jefferson, LA, he was born on April 18, 1949, to the late Felix Guillot Jr. and Rose Celino Guillot. David is survived by his son, Gene; daughter in-law, Nicole; beloved grandchildren, Leo and Luca; brother, Michael (Laura); brother in-law, Vincent Piranio; niece, Danielle (Thomas); nephew, Nicholas (Amanda); and too many close-knit cousins and friends to name.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Tina; his parents; and his brother, Ronnie.

He was a two-sport star for the Rummel Raiders, winning the district meet with a high jump “as high as what these kids jump today without all the techniques they teach now.”

For Rummel’s basketball team in 1968, David dazzled crowds with a pregame dunk and then showed off his jump shot and passing ability during games. As a freshman in 1965, he helped lead the junior varsity team to an undefeated season.

He always spoke fondly about his brothers in the DXL fraternity. As young men, they partied hard and ate even harder. The lifelong friends still get together multiple times a year for a crawfish boil and other events.

David proudly served his country in Vietnam, where he earned a Bronze Service Star medal and worked in the medical unit.

He worked for 40-plus years in the freight industry at Saia, AAA Cooper, Grainger and Averitt. To help support his family in the early 1990s, he took a second job delivering newspapers for The Times-Picayune and let his son tag along during summers.

An avid sports fan, he cheered for the Boston Celtics and St. Louis Cardinals. While in the army, he became enamored with Kansas basketball and rooted for the Jayhawks until the very end. He attended the Final Four at the Superdome last season when Kansas won the national title.

A South Louisiana boy, David supported the Saints, LSU and could put away crawfish faster than anyone this side of the Mississippi. He loved Andy Griffith and The Rolling Stones.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA, 70006, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. Visitation starts at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum after the Mass.
