Daniel W. Goldman, M.D., prominent retired physician and medical school professor died on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Dr. Goldman was a beloved and well respected member of the community in which he lived, and remained active until Hurricane Katrina. Devoted husband of the late Thelma Joseph Goldman, and beloved father of Marc A. Goldman and the late Jeffrey H. Goldman. Brother of the late Marion Rubenstein, Nathalie Leon and Sidney Goldman. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Dr. Goldman will be remembered for his gentile manner, and his numerous acts of kindness and generosity throughout his life.
Dr. Goldman was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, a graduate of Isidore Newman School, attended Tulane University and graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1938. He became an active staff member of Touro Infirmary in 1944. He was also an active member of the teaching staff at LSU Medical School, serving as Clinical Professor of OB/Gyn, and head of the Department of OB/Gyn. He was a past president of the New Orleans Gynecological & Obstetrical Society, a Diplomat of the American Board of OB/Gyn, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Founding Fellow of the American College of OB/Gyn as well as a member of the state and local medical societies. In 1990 he became Director of Touro Center for Healthy Beginnings, a prenatal clinic run as a teaching arm of Tulane University Residency Program. Dr. Goldman was the recipient of the prestigious Judah Touro Society award for outstanding service to the hospital and community in 1996.
He will be sadly and lovingly missed by family and friends, for the countless lives he touched and by the many lives he brought into this world.
Graveside services will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 4:00 PM from Chevra Thilim Memorial Park, 5000 Iberville at Helena Sts., New Orleans with Rabbi Ethan Linden officiating.
