Daniel "Danny" Blanchard

Daniel “Danny” Blanchard passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday December 23, 2011 at 5:25 p.m. at the age of 48 at Canon Hospice. The fourth of four children he was born to Clarence J. and the late Mary Ann Blanchard on October 18, 1963. Also survived by siblings Wayne, Steven (Anne), and Lynn Gallagher (Bill). Danny was a beloved son, brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, friend and a special friend of Yvonne “Ba-Bon” Rousset. He was a lifelong resident of Harahan, LA., and longtime employee of Winn Dixie. Danny attended St. Michael’s Special School. He was also a member of We Care for Special People, Special Connections, JPRD Pinnacle Rainbow Club, Special Bowlers and Special Rollers. He was a recipient of the St. Rita Harahan Altar Server of the Year for 1982, a Special Olympics award-winning swimmer and a member of the Southern Yacht Club International Special Olympic Sailing Team at Notre Dame University in 1987. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. Danny also loved to dance. Danny was a stranger to no one and a best friend to many. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Monday evening, December 26, 2011 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy. in Metairie from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM dressed in their favorite Saints’ attire. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM at St. Rita Church. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Danny’s family would like to extend a ‘thank you’ to the staff of East Jefferson General Hospital, Canon Hospice and a special thanks to Canon Hospice nurse Ms. Suzanne.
