Claire Mae Zander Lennox died on May 19, 2014 at the age of 89 years at her home in Covington, La. She was the only child of her predeceased parents, Noelie Zibilich Zander and Dr. Edwin L. Zander. She was married to Thomas N. Lennox for 67 years and the mother of four children, twins Patrick Andrew Lennox and Pamela Ann Lennox Tynes (deceased), Jean Lea Lennox Norton and Wade John Lennox. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Claire Mae grew up in the Holy Rosary area of New Orleans. She graduated from McMain High School and attended Newcomb College where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Besides living in St. Tammany Parish since 1991, she has also formerly resided in Jefferson and Orleans parishes, Destin, Florida and Asheville, NC. In her early years she enjoyed working as a volunteer assistant librarian and office worker at Christian Brothers School. She served on the Milne Home for Girls Board. She was also a volunteer in the surgery department of Ochsner Hospital's main campus and at St. Tammany Parish Hospital where a plaque is located in the lobby recognizing her long service. She was a very fun-loving person, and for all who knew her, a joy to be around. She stayed close to her friends over the years, mainly with two groups, "The Sewing Club", where no one owned a needle or thread, and "The Bridge Club" which never opened a deck of cards. Claire Mae loved her family and friends. She was known as "Grams" by all of her grandchildren and in-laws and stood to help and administer to all in need. When you were down, her loving smile and attitude would serve to pick you up. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and friends may call on the family at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, La. on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. A service will immediately follow in the chapel. A private internment will be held at Metairie Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, La 70447 or St. Tammany Hospital Hospice, 725 W. 11th Street, Covington, LA 70433.
