Catherine “Cathy” Foulks, of New Orleans, Louisiana, died peacefully September 20, 2024 in Oschner Hospital. Catherine was born in Detroit on February 1, 1939, the daughter of the late Donald and Alberta (O'Day) MacGregor. Cathy is survived by her loving daughter, Camilla (Mat) Flannery; cherished grandchildren, Eva Zelevansky and Will Zelevansky; and dear sister, Marge (Dick) Crawford. Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Edward “Ted” William Foulks and her brothers John, Donald and Angus and sisters Charlotte Schneider and Mary Jean “Pat” Burkel.
Cathy was born and raised in NE Detroit and attended Columbus Elementary and Denby High School. Always very active and social, Cathy rose to the level of Mariner in the Girl Scouts in her youth. She received a BA in education from Eastern Michigan University and was an active member of the Gamma Zeta order of the Pearl. She is remembered fondly for her love of beauty in nature, art, and design as well as her love for history, literature and politics. She had a keen sense of style and would brighten a room with her creative flair. She had exuberance for many interests, from horticulture (volunteering at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia and the New Orleans Garden Society) to the study of the French language and literature (teaching middle school students at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia).
She was an activist for Women’s Rights, a volunteer for many years for the League of Women Voters. She was involved in the New Orleans community and attended Trinity Episcopal Church. Her resilience and perseverance will be remembered as she experienced difficulty throughout her many obstacles in life. She loved her city of New Orleans and was significantly impacted by Hurricane Katrina. She contentfully lived out her days on Magazine Street under expert care.
