He was born on November 19, 1960 in New Orleans to Harry and Mary Smith. He was the youngest of four and had three sisters.
Alan graduated from O Perry Walker High School in 1978 and began working for Oliver Van Horn in the warehouse. Throughout his over forty-year career at Van Horn, Alan enjoyed taking customers to lunch, socializing with his co-workers, and is remembered for his impeccable work ethic.
Alan loved hunting and fishing, enjoyed boiling seafood with his children and family, and was always making people laugh. He enjoyed trips to Grand Isle where he would go fishing, crabbing, and floundering and often competed in the Tarpon Rodeo. He will be remembered for his sarcasm, generosity and quick wit.
He is survived by his daughter, Erika Smith Mole (Nicholas Mole); his son, Brent Smith; ex-wife, Emma Patricia Smith; sisters, Lynn Vincent (Bill Vincent) and Beryl Smith; two nieces, Julia Cobb and Nasheli Macaluso; two nephews, Dylan Vincent and Tony Macaluso, and many loved ones.
