Jean was born December 30, 1930 in Eastland County, Texas to Lee Madison Locke and Prebble Harville Locke. She died July 29, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Wallace Clinton Locke, and her husband, Billy Joe Brown on March 20, 2014.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Brown and his wife Melanie, her daughter Cheryl LeCrone and her husband Greg; and her son Russell Brown; six grandchildren, Tiffani LeCrone Makahilahila and her husband Keoki, Jonathan LeCrone, Briana LeCrone Smith and husband Cody, Claire Brown, Julia Brown, and Jared Russell Brown and wife Kendall; and eight great-grandchildren Leilani, Kamaile, Kalea, Kekoa Makahilahila, Nathaniel LeCrone, Mason, Lucy, and Knox Smith.
She began her first year of school in Vernon, Texas, where she discovered the love of theatre, playing Goldilocks in the school play, The Three Bears. When she was seven, the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. There her favorite music teacher took an interest in her for her talent for singing and worked and encouraged her to use her talent.
Jean graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High in 1948. While attending Midwestern University, she worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Jean and Bill were married December 29, 1951, and moved to Dallas where she continued to work for SW Bell. With the birth of her first child, she became a stay at home Mom; the most important job of her life. The last sixteen years of employment were for the Dallas ISD.
She loved working with Children and young people. She taught Sunday School and served as Director of Girls Auxiliary at Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church where they were members for 32 years. In 1998, they moved their membership to Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. She loved her Adult 8 Co-Ed class where she served as Activity Director, Class Director, and President of their Forever Young Department.
Jean had a passion for music and deemed it a privilege to be able to sing in the Sanctuary Choir and the Senior Adult Pop Choir. She was also a Charter Member of the Senior Adult Choir.
Jean was a Den Mother and Cub Scout Instructor for Southern Cross District and Circle Ten Counsel for over 17 years and was recognized for her many years of service by being awarded the Silver Beaver, Boy Scouts highest honor for volunteers. In addition, she was active as a PTA officer for most of the years that her children were in school. As PTA President, she was awarded Texas Life Membership. She also served as secretary for the Dallas Association for PTA.
In 1982, Jean and Bill were Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Lucinda Corner Order of the Eastern Star.
Jean’s greatest delight was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We love you Mom/Mimi and will forever miss you.
Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Monday, August 2, 2021 at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home. Funeral Service is at 1:00pm, Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite and committal will follow at Restland Memorial Park Dallas.
