Roman Luis Gaona Jr. was born Ottawa, Ohio on July 9, 1956 to the late Roman Luis Gaona Sr. and Maria Rosa Gaona. Affectionately known as “Pops”,” Grandpops”, or “Jr.”, Mr. Gaona spent the majority of his childhood in the Texas pandhandle, specifically Plainview and Halecenter, TX where he loved cruising around town in his beloved Trans-am. “Pops” loved listening to all kinds of music ranging from Country, Classic Rock, and Tejano. His favorite bands were La Mafia and Mazz. Roman joined the Army and proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service medal, an M-16 expert badge, and crewmembers Wings. He enjoyed watching WWF and WWE wrestling on TV. His other hobbies included betting against the cowboys, gift wrapping, remote controlled cars and planes, collecting DVD’s, watches, rings, and other jewelry. Roman loved to sit out on his porch, eating Cheetos, and root beer flavored Ice. He was a plumber and event planner by trade, putting together major events throughout Dallas and the surrounding areas. “Pops” touched so many lives and there are many great memories to share, but most importantly he was a generous, loving, and kind man who never turned anyone away who needed his help.
