Marilyn Wallace Jones was born September 29, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to Sam Houston Wallace and Ruby Faye Hopper Wallace. She was followed two minutes later by her twin sister Carolyn Wallace Cheney. The family soon moved to Mesquite where they made their home. Marilyn graduated as the salutatorian of the 1970 class of Mesquite High School. She furthered her education at Eastfield College and later at East Texas State University obtaining a masters degree in physics and math with plans to be a teacher. She was hired by her alma mater where she taught physics, math, and computer science for 35 years. Marilyn was an Apple Corps honoree by Mesquite ISD and a long time member of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers service sorority.
In 1983 she sponsored Mac Marchman at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair where he won a grand prize and a trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair. At the same time Karl Jones sponsored Lan Vu at the same event winning the other grand prize. This was the beginning of a relationship that led to 38 years of happy marriage. We were always a team working to boost our students until retirement in 2011. Marilyn loved traveling, camping, photography, visiting friends and family. We are blessed with fabulous friends and companions that shared many travels and adventures.
Marilyn's gifts were many, but her giving, loving spirit and willingness to work tirelessly to help others were always clearly evident. Marilyn was a searcher. She searched for things misplaced, and ways to help others. No task was ever too hard or beneath her dignity if she could serve others. Her struggle against cancer was truly inspiring. Self-pity was not a part of her personality as she kept a positive outlook and strove to regain her health with the help of an incredible kind physician and encouraging physical therapists. Marilyn passed peacefully from this life after an eighteen month fight with cancer March 12, 2022.
Marilyn is survived by her twin sister Carolyn Wallace Cheney of Monument, Colorado, her husband Karl Jones of Mesquite, niece Calyn Jones of Dallas, niece Erin Stewart of Mesquite, niece Amanda Richardson of Kennedale, nephew James Stewart of Bedford, and six great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 19 at Rylie Church of Christ (10240 Rylie Road Dallas, Texas) from 11am until 12pm. Services will follow from 12pm until 1pm. Graveside Services will be at 1:30pm at Grovehill Memorial Park 4118 Samuel Blvd. Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations can be made in her name to The American Cancer Society or Saint Jude Children's Hospital.
Lord, I pray you help me to live the rest of my days so that I can be united with my dear Marilyn.
