Leslie "Doc" Landess Humphreys, aged 96, passed away on May 1, 2018 in Forney, Texas. He was born on September 12, 1921 in Lawson, Texas to Forest and Zula Humphreys. Leslie (nicknamed Doc) was raised in Lawson (Mesquite), Texas. He served in the U.S. Army in Company D as a Tank Battalion Officer during World War II. He married Emogene Flatt in 1949 and the couple had two children.
In his spare time Doc enjoyed travel and being with his family. He loved to cook and take care of his wife, whose health was failing at an early age. His family and friends will always remember him as an avid baseball fan, namely the Texas Rangers. He looked forward to discussing baseball stats with his son and grandson; as well as attending games with them.
He is preceded in death by: Granddaughter - Andrea Burton; Parents - Forest and Zula Humphreys; and seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Humphreys is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emogene Humphreys; son, James Leslie Humphreys and daughter-in-law Becky Humphreys; daughter, Doris Jean Burton; grandson, James Franklin Humphreys; sister, Faye Flatt; and nieces and nephews.
Leslie retired after 35 years of service from Southern Pacific / Cotton Belt Railroad. After retiring he went to work for Mesquite Independent School District as a crossing guard at Florence Black Elementary and enjoyed being with children. After 25 years with the school district years he retired at the age of 92.
