Jimmie Don Kirby, 74, of Mesquite, TX passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2015 at his home in Mesquite. He was born in Denton, TX to the late Frankie and Dalsie Kirby. Jimmie was raised in Dallas-Fort Worth and after High School, he joined the US Navy where he proudly served his country from 1958 – 1962. He married the love of his life Joy in 1958, and they had two children Kip and Kay. Jimmie was a hardworking man who enjoyed and worked as an Insurance adjuster for State Farm until his retirement. He later worked for Pilot and Ebrel doing estimates in disaster areas over the United States. Jimmie and his family resided in Houston for 20 years and then moved to Mesquite in 1993. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, computers, electronics, watching western movies, and adding to his extensive collection of movie DVD’s. He was a family man who loved his “girls”, referring to his wife, daughter, and two granddaughters. Jimmie was committed to his Faith, his family, and of course John Wayne. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mesquite where he served as president of Sunday School class. He also served as the governor of the International Kart Federation (IKF) which is the governing body for the sport of go kart racing. Jimmie was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Frankie and Dalsie Kirby; brothers Dale and Walter Kirby; sister Dorothy Waddle. Jimmie is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Joy Kirby; daughter Kay and husband Mark Cates; son Kip and wife Chata Kirby; granddaughters Courtney and husband Aaron Webb and Ashley Cates; as well as his numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other friends.
