James Bower Fain ("Jim") passed away in Dallas, peacefully, in bed, July 1, 2021 at the age of 85 years. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kate Elliott Bower and James R. Bower and his parents, Virginia Bower Fain and Earl Fain II, brother Earl Fain III, his loving uncle J.R. Bower, Jr. (Ann), cousins James Elliott Bower, Ann Bower, and nephew Earl "Baron" Fain IV (Courtenay). Jim is survived by cousins Stuart Bower (Jennifer) son of James E. Bower (deceased), Thomas Knight Bower, his sons, Elliott, Philip (Erika), Adrian (Jenny), Kate Bower, her sons, Patrick Willis (Silvia) and John Andrew Willis (Jada), John Ralston Bower (EdithWright), his sons Michael (Laura), Jonathan (Kara), Christopher, Joshua, Nicholas (AnnaMarie), and David Armstrong Bower (Dawn), niece Virginia Elizabeth Fain, and great nephew Taliaferro "Tradd" Fain.
Jim was a member of the Brook Hollow Golf Club and the Idlewild Club, both of Dallas, Texas. He split his time between his homes in Dallas and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He attended high school at the Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and college at Yale in Connecticut and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He became a Chartered Financial Analyst and managed his investments in Oil and Real Property, as well as in Stocks and Bonds. He played tennis and enjoyed both water and snow skiing. Jim was an accomplished ski racer and member of the Dallas Ski Club and took pleasure in organizing their parties and taking trips to many destinations with his numerous friends. He often skied 100+ days a year. He was a NASTAR Ski Champion. Jim lived in Rome in the early 1960s and became fluent in Italian. He loved to read and to study histories of the successful. He enjoyed sports, jazz, and cats. Jim also loved good food and dining in fine restaurants with his friends and family. He was a “bon vivant.”
