She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who was known for being quite the fighter as she battled numerous medical issues.
She had a long successful career teaching math in middle school, high school and community college.
She enjoyed sewing and reading, being a member of both a book club and sewing club. She also enjoyed playing the piano and most of all, spending time with her two grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of Mesquite Church of Christ who had a passion for helping people as evidenced by many hours spent providing meals and transportation, sewing for others and visiting nursing home residents.
She is survived by daughters Melanie Cox and husband Ken, Tammy Welch and husband Clark, grandchildren Cory and Cristal Welch, and brother Dallis Douglas and wife Luann.
She is preceded in death by husband of 41 years Charles Johnson. She is also preceded in death by Dr. James Austin whom she married in 2011.
The family would like to express special thanks to home health aide Deborah Looney, who provided phenomenal companionship and care.
Service will be 10 am Sat, Dec 10, 2016 at Mesquite Church of Christ with burial to follow at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Fri, Dec 9, 2016 at Anderson-Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home.
