Dorothy Ann (Dotty B) Bassett, 82, passed away on January 28, 2018 in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on April 10, 1935 in Springfield, Illinois to Edith and Charles Beard. Dorothy was raised in Illinois and graduated from A&M New Mexico (with straight A’s). She had four children; Ginny Harris, Arlen Harris, Christy Harris, and Wendell Bassett. She worked for American Petrofina (Fina) for more than 20 years and John Tatum for 20 years. She created Coast to Coast Country Music Magazine, promoted up and coming youth talent in Country music and loved spending time with friends and family.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a big-hearted, fun loving, outspoken, and direct person with a heart of love for everyone.
She is preceded in death by daughter Ginny Lou Hammonds; brother Harold Beard; and her parents.
Dorothy leaves behind her brothers: Charles Beard of El Paso, TX; and Richard Beard (Evelyn) of Virginia. She will be greatly missed by her children Arlen Paul Harris (Yvette), Christy Jo Harris, Wendell Evan Bassett (Nicole); Grand Children Jimmy Savage (Debra), Kerri Savage, Talytha Tibbs, Jerry Savage (Brooke), Brandon Savage (Mercedes), Shonna Yawn (Jason), James Corley (Donna) Eddy Corley (Amber), Danielle Elam (Eric), Kimberly Huckaba (Denny), Jordan Harris, Dalton Harris, Courtney Harris, and Macy Harris. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren and cousins.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother. She was a very strong woman with Godly morals and ethics. She was loved and respected by many. Dorothy taught her children and great-grandchildren to be strong and do right by themselves and others. She lived a full and blessed life.
