Darrell Wayne Lindsey, age 67, was happily reunited with the Love of his life, Beverly Ann Brown on June 4, 2022. He was born and raised in Mesquite, Texas all of his years except for a small 5 year stint in Pleasant Grove. He made his Earthly debut to Lawrence “Jack” and Anna Evelyn on September 24, 1954. He came home from the hospital to the family’s little piece of OLD Mesquite, as at one point the Lindsey’s owned a good size of the land. He grew up with his Sister, Evelyn “Carol” and Brother, Lawrence Jr. He met his future Love in 1966 when her family moved in next door. He married Beverly on November 4, 1972 and lasted 45 years before her passing in 2018.
Sadly, he was a proud Graduate of Mesquite High School in 1973. The sad part is because he graduated before the Better School came along – North Mesquite High School. “Go Stallions!” He loved the friendly High School rivalry that we had every year. If we couldn’t go to the actual game, we would at least listen to it on his favorite radio station KEOM 88.5 fm.
He had lots of work experience in those 67 years. He truly was a Jack-of-all-trades. You name it, he could do it - if not he would You Tube it! His first job was as a Custodian at Town East Mall at the age of 17. He then changed jobs to be a Tire Mechanic at Montgomery Wards in Big Town Mall so that he could provide for his wife and new bouncing Baby Boy, Darrell Bryan – born May 1973. He was then offered a job of working in the Paint and Body department at Moore Chevrolet in 1973 until 1977.
A Welding job with better benefits and paid commission was taken at Gardner Denver. As you see, a new addition came along in July of 1977 – a Baby Girl named Jennifer Renee. In 1982, he decided to make it a true family affair by going to work with his Dad and Brother at Barnes in the Maintenance Department. They didn’t provide insurance, so Darrell assisted the Midwife in helping deliver their second Baby Girl, Ashley Noelle in December 1984. In 1988, he began working at Aviall in the Oven Room and then promoted to Welder for the next 20 years.
In 2008 he was hired as a Welder by GE. They were bought out by Dallas Airmotive and later became Standard Aero, where his job duties changed to Mechanic. He officially Retired in January 2022. During all of this time he also worked Part-time at Eastfield College in the Tool Room handing out supplies to the Auto Paint and Body students. This position began in 1999 and lasted for 19 years.
He is preceded in death by his Wife, Parents and Brother in-Law, Albert Sepeda. He is survived by his Son, Darrell Bryan and Jennifer of Mesquite, Daughters Jennifer Broyles and Matthew of Mesquite and Ashley Teems and Jerry of Mesquite. He is the proud PawPaw of 3 Grandsons, Christian, Lukas and Zackary and Granddaughters Skylar and Everly as well as numerous “Adopted Kids and Grandkids”. He is also survived by numerous Aunts, Nieces and Nephews, Cousins and Friends. But most of all his faithful, loyal, “Naptime” companion Boudreaux aka “Buddy” the Beagle.
Even though Darrell was busy most of his life working a full time and part time job, he still made time to spend with his family and liked being outdoors. We had numerous family vacations in Arkansas and Oklahoma that involved playing Uno as a family by lantern in the tent while camping. Another family favorite was having picnics at City Lake Park, eating, socializing and watching the ducks. He loved being a proud supporter of the Team Mesquite Special Olympics athletes, even much so that he was a Unified Bowling Partner with Lukas. He will be very dearly missed. Give Momma a huge hug for us. We Love you always! In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Team Mesquite Special Olympics.
