Ted was born in Jamestown, ND but grew up in Gackle, ND. He worked with his father in the Gackle Packing Company throughout his high school and early college years. He attended Jamestown College where he met his future bride, Bonlyn, and they were married in 1963. He graduated from the University of ND Ellendale Branch with a degree in History and a minor in music. He worked as a student recruiter for Jamestown College prior to owning his grocery store in Gackle; Speidel’s Super Value. After moving to Arizona in 1981, he became a manager for Fry’s Food Stores.
His joys included fishing, hunting, woodworking, and traveling with Bonlyn in their 5th wheel. He loved life and having his family all around him. He loved to sing, play the ukulele, and share his talents with everyone who knew him.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Bonlyn, his children; John Speidel, Julie (Dave) Hagar, Nancy (Jeff) Miller, and his grandchildren; Tristann (Seth) Nez, Jacob Hagar, Bethany Hagar, Nicholas Miller, and Luke Miller. Also his beloved nephew and family: Steve (Cindy) Schaible, Corrine Schaible and Elizabeth Schaible, and his stepsister, DiAna Overlander.
He was predeceased by his parents; Theodore Speidel and Helen Speidel Overlander, Stepfather Lee Overlander, and sister DeAnn Schaible.
The service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31st at 10:00 am at Church of the Master Presbyterian; 6659 E. University Dr. , Mesa, AZ 85205
