Sue Ann Christensen

Service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church-Madelia, on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

The clergy will be Janet Adams. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia, MN.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia, MN.

After graduating from New Ulm Public High School Sue attended the University of South Dakota, took a break to join the Army and then went back to USD where she ultimately graduated with a major in English and a minor in Mass Communications. This was no small feat as a single mother.

Her college experience led her to her first job working for U.S. Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. She rose through various positions to ultimately serve as the Office Manager for North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad. Sue was all about relationships. She had the amazing gift of making friends equally with Senators and Senate furniture movers. She was always the “go to” person who could get anything done for her office.

Sue next moved to Arizona to be closer to her parents who wintered there. She worked for the Arizona Department of Economic Security in various support positions. Once again, she put her relationship skills to use to serve the people of Arizona. Medical issues forced Sue to retire early and focus on health. Sue focused her passion on raising her two children.

When asked if she would ever marry, Sue’s response was, “When I find a man who treats me the way my brothers treat their wives, I’ll think about it.” She finally met that man in Mashona “Mo” Lackland on November 1, 2015, and married him on July 2, 2021. In addition to gaining an awesome husband, she also received bonus children – Leah and Brandon.

Her most proud gifts to the world came in the form of her children Gibraun Christensen of San Antonio, Texas and Zoe Fields of Mesa, Arizona, and her grandchildren Kahlil and Kahlia Christensen.

Sue is survived by her husband, Mashona Lackland; sons, Gibraun (Takiah) Christensen and Brandon Lackland; daughters, Zoe Fields and Leah Lackland; grandchildren Kahlil and Kahlia Christensen; mother, Sybil Christensen; brothers Brent (Anne) Christensen and Glen (Brenda) Christensen; sister Dawn (Mike) Schneider and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins who adored her. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Norvel and Verna Burreson; Everett and Hildegard Christensen; father, Everett Christensen, Jr., nephew, Terry Goettsch and cousin Mark Schmidt.
