Steven Lowell Packer was born on December 24th, 1939 in the small town of Heber, Utah. He was the second of five kids born to Irene Friedrich Packer, a homemaker, and Edson Smith Packer, a school teacher at Wasatch High School. He met his first wife on his mission in Germany, and they had 4 boys together – Malcom (Roger), Ryon, Regan, and Randy. After 25 years, Steve and his first wife decided to part ways. A year later, he was introduced to his second wife, Pilar Perez, and they married on June 17, 1988 in his mom’s garden in Salt Lake City, Utah. He later adopted Pilar’s daughter, Kate, and capped off his family with Kaelin in 1989.
While Steve achieved many great accomplishments throughout his life, he shone most as a loving Opa to his 8 grandchildren, and had already shown so much love for his 2 grandsons that are on the way.
After a short battle with stage 4 melanoma, Steve passed peacefully on February 14, 2021, surrounded by family in his home. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his older brother Ed. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pilar, sisters Saundra and Linda, brother Brian, as well as all his children and grandchildren.
