Born February 7, 1947 to Dorothy and John Cubine in Pampa, Texas.
Steve went off to college at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where he studied Political Science and Education. He also played college football there.
In August of 1967, he joined the Marine Corp where he was a motor vehicle operator and where he served his country in Vietnam. Steve received a Purple Heart, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a Sargent.
After being honorably discharged, Steve went back to college and that's where he met his bride to be, Rene Welser. In August of 1970, after only only knowing one another for a year, they were married.
Steve started his career as a Policeman in Canyon, Texas as a beat cop, then started working narcotics, all the while he was still in college getting his Masters Degree. He also got his teaching certification.
In 1975, Steve took a turn in his career to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico to become a Special Agent for Santa Fe Railroad.
However, Steve's passion for Law Enforcement led him on his long, successful journey as a Police Chief in many cities, Spearman, Texas, Portales, New Mexico, Roswell, New Mexico. While Steve was the Chief of Police in Rosewell, he has the honor of protecting President Ronald Reagan on a President's stop there. It was truly an honor for him.
After Roswell, a giant leap happened in his life. This small town man took a job as Director of Public Safety in Hermosa Beach, California.
While in Hermosa, he has the honor to be asked to go to Quantico, Virginia to the National Academy with the FBI. This was a true highlight in his career.
Steve didn't quite have Law Enforcement out of his system so he accepted the job as Police Chief in Weslaco, Texas.
After a year he was finally done and he and Rene moved to Arizona and became a Private Investigator for a firm in Phoenix.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and John, and his brother Mike.
He is survived by his loving wife for 53 years; his son Chad, daughter-in-law Melinda, and two beautiful grandsons Caydon and Carter who live in Tennessee; his brother Sam Cubine, sister-in-law Kathy; a sister Kathy Bell and many nieces and nephews.
The number of people he touched is endless. Steve will forever be in our hearts and memories.
