His favorite teacher, Mr. Hamlin, taught his favorite class, English, but he was inspired by many teachers in school life, including Mrs. Kelly Murrell, Ms. Kuropatkin, and Ms. Sharpe. At Dobson, he enjoyed singing in the Men’s Chorus and earning the Mesa Public Schools Honor for Excellence in Service Learning by volunteering for hundreds of hours in elementary reading programs. Spencer attended Mesa Community College for two semesters and continued his service volunteering throughout his adult life.
Spencer had many positive influences in his life but especially his best friends Miles McDermott and Christian Garcia. Spencer’s life was also enriched by the many pets and animals he loved: snakes, rats, hermit crabs, and scorpions joined his dogs Dino, Madison, Jessie, Chuck, Norris, and Texas Walker Ranger. He enjoyed taking pictures of and with animals, especially the animals that he would photograph on his road trips with his friends and family.
