Shirley Agnes Rundle, the former Shirley Smith of Adel, IA, loving wife and mother, went to be with her Lord on January 1, 2023 surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Meridian Manor Hall, 2101 S. Meridian Rd in Apache Junction, AZ on Friday March 3rd from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Burial at the Brethern Cemetery in Dallas Center/Celebration of Life will be July 7th. Further details TBA.
Shirley was the 5th child of Burdette and Elsie (Schultze) Smith born January 13, 1935 in Dallas Center and a 1952 graduate of Adel High School. She was involved in the Rural Youth program traveling through the Western states and Canada, and played as a basketball forward for Adel High. After graduation she worked for the Dallas State Bank in Adel. On January 29, 1956, Shirley married the love of her life, Norman D. Rundle, at the Methodist Church in Adel, They lived and farmed in Ellsworth, Iowa and their daughter Kim was born later that year. In 1960 they moved to Grand Junction, where their son Ken was born in 1964, and continued farming and raising their children. They were members and faithfully attended and served at the Presbyterian Church. Shirley worked most of her adult life as a manager for the Casey's store in Grand Junction, IA and as a real estate tax coordinator for the Greene County auditor's office in Jefferson IA, where she was honored for 20 years of service at her retirement in 2001. She loved traveling to see her grandchildren and wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona where they eventually made their home address, and attended Broadway Christian Church in Mesa AZ.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Charlotte Maas, Beverly Hicks, brother Doland Smith, sister-in-law Edna Smith, niece Debra Oliver, brother- in - laws Charles Maas, Ronald Hicks, and nephews Steve Smith and Gary Maas.
She is survived by husband Norman, daughter Kim Zastrow, son Ken (Pam) Rundle, two grandchildren Cameron Zastrow , Jacob Rundle, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and neighbors. She enjoyed playing bonco, puzzling, and visiting with her coffee friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed traveling to see her children, grandchildren, family members and friends.
Donations in her memory may be made to The First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction, Iowa, or Broadway Christian Church in Mesa, Arizona.
