Born in western Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John W. and Wilda Johnston Lewis. Shirley moved to Arizona in 1979 after living in Indiana and Ohio. Shirley was formerly an employee of Kroger Company and USAir. She owned and managed travel agency locations in Youngtown and Sun City, Arizona from 1980 to 1989. Shirley and her husband, Don, enjoyed traveling the world visiting Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. They loved to spend time exploring Arizona and spent many retirement years driving cross country visiting historical locations as well as friends and family. In addition to travel, Shirley loved entertaining, socializing and working with the public. She passionately followed politics and was involved in local issues. Shirley was a past member of the Red Hat Society and the Ocotillo Women’s League.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard A. Lewis. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Donald R. Kovac, daughters Terry Pieta Byers, Jill Pieta and brother Robin W. Lewis as well as a large, loving family of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, December 1st at 11:30am at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 South Alma School Road, Sun Lakes, Arizona 85248.
