Ruth Horn Scharf, 89, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on August 15, 2016, at the Citadel in Mesa.
Ruth is survived by her husband Carl (Don) Scharf and daughter Linda Scharf of Mesa, Arizona, sisters Louise Schmoker of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Barbara (Leonard) Dueker of Mesa, sisters-in-law Joan Horn and June Saxton of Fort Dodge, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Sophia Horn, and her brother Harold Horn.
Ruth Sophie Horn was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended school in Badger and Pioneer, Iowa, and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1944. She married Carl D. Scharf in 1949, and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge until moving to Sunland Village in Mesa, Arizona in 2002. Ruth worked as the office manager for the surgery practice of Drs. Beeh, McTaggart, and Van Patten in Fort Dodge for 30 years.
Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge and St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mesa. She was a longtime member of the Women of St. Paul’s and St. Luke’s Joy Circle. Ruth and Don were active members of the NIAPRA and Model T antique car clubs in the Fort Dodge area for many years. Ruth also enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking, and playing cards. Her beautiful smile, sunny personality, and caring nature will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, and at a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mesa, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
