Ronnie was born April 19, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Bernard F. McBride and Hazel E. DeHarty. While growing up, his father was in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was stationed at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi, Texas, and then Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. While in Maryland for approximately a year, Ronnie would skip school and ride a bus or hitchhike to Washington, D.C., to visit the monuments and explore the city and the family dug clams at Chesapeake Bay. Then they moved back to Sioux City where he graduated from Central High School in 1956. He was in the Naval Reserves 1955 – 1963 and at some point went to Phoenix, Arizona, on the way to his destination in California and vowed he would move to Phoenix one day.
He married Carol Jean Gonnion on April 2, 1960, in Sioux City and they lived there until 1979 when they moved their family to Chandler, Arizona. Ronnie worked at Sioux City Dressed Pork where he knew of Marsden Gonnion, his future father-in-law unbeknownst to him as Marsden passed away prior to dating and marrying Carol. He also worked as a route salesman for Palmer Candy, loved his job as a milk truck driver at Robert’s Dairy until they sold the routes, then worked at Standard Redi Mix. Once in Arizona, Ronnie worked for Phoenix Redi Mix until he retired in 2001.
Survivors include his wife Carol, brother Denny (Marilyn), five children: Ronald, Rick (Tracey), Catherine Godoy (Ruben), Robb, and Christine, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Bernard (Joyce) and one grandchild, and mother-in-law Jetta.
