Roland Wayne Wright, loving father, stepfather, brother and husband, passed away on November 8, 2019 in Mesa, Arizona. Born in the small town of Veblen, South Dakota in 1931, Roland was raised with the values of a small town mid-westerner, spending his childhood in Veblen and Minnesota.
At 20 years old, Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War as a vehicle repairman - he was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. After an honorable discharge, Roland enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958. For the next 21 years as a power specialist and superintendent, Roland served in Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and several other postings around the world. With his retirement as Senior Master Sergeant in 1979, Roland had dedicated almost 27 years of his life in the service of his country.
In the late 1980’s Roland moved to Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, working at a satellite tracking facility. After marrying, Roland settled in Mesa, Arizona, where he enjoyed his job as a delivery driver for a large document printing company. Roland loved people, and people loved him in return, and Roland kept right on working until early 2019, visiting with his customers and friends.
Roland is survived by his widow Shirley, son Bruce, stepdaughter Myra, stepson Damien, and six grandchildren. Roland was a kindhearted, loving, and loyal man, and he is missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
