Robert Adam Gruber of Chandler, Arizona passed away on September 5, 2015 at the age of 80. He was born May 21, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Adam and Winnie [Laade] Gruber. Robert was married to Shirley May Goltz in 1957 and together they moved to Alsip, Illinois in 1959. In 1965, he became the Treasurer for the town of Alsip until 1967 and then in 1969, was elected Village Clerk and served until 1997. Robert enjoyed playing poker with friends and the occasional visit to the casinos; he loved animals, especially his dogs and also enjoyed traveling in his camper with Shirley. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years and the love of his life Shirley May Gruber on May 15, 2013. He was also preceded by his parents Adam and Winnie; his sister Joyce (Don) Spierling and his brother Thomas Gruber. Robert is survived by his brother-in-law and sister in law Thomas and Jeanette Goltz as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday October 24, 2015 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 East Broadway Road in Mesa. There will also be an interment service at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois for both Robert and Shirley at a later date.
