On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, our Dad was reunited with our Mom in Heaven. Dean was a faithful, loving husband, a wonderful Father and a loving Grandpa and Great Grandpa. His beautiful smile and gentle spirit will be missed by all.
Dean was born on June 19,1926 in Victoria Township, Illinois, the second son of Carl and Ethel Carlson. He spent his childhood and teenage years on the family farm. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII thereafter. After the war, he attended Browns Business College in Galesburg. He married Evelyn Ada Windom, the love of his life for 68 years, on September 5th, 1952.
He was employed by Admirals refrigeration in Galesburg in the early 60’s and retired from Maytag refrigeration in the early 90’s. He also worked at the Park Drive Dairy in Galesburg. He loved to garden, and his LARGE vegetable and fruit gardens will always be remembered.
Dean and Evelyn were members of the First Church of God in Galesburg until May 1993. They then moved to Mesa, Arizona where their children lived. Dean enjoyed harvesting the oranges and grapefruits from his trees and kept the local birds fed. Dean was a member of the East University Church of God in Mesa. He was a devout Christian and loved his church family.
Dean is survived by 2 daughters, a son and their spouses. Sandy and Mike Reitmeyer, Scottsdale, AZ; Larry and Rene Carlson, Chandler, AZ; Debi and Doug LaLonde, Gilbert, AZ. His 7 grandchildren, Milee (Alvaro) Ramazzini, Jillian Carlson, Sean, Dustin and Makenzie Reitmeyer, and Cassidy (Jordan) Pingree and Cheyanna LaLonde; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, September 30th at Mariposa Gardens in Mesa from 1:00 – 3pm with the celebration following at 3pm. Pastor Larry Young will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the East University Church of God in Mesa. Their address is 6630 East University Dr, Mesa, AZ 85205
