Born in Portsmouth, Virginia Naval hospital October 27, 1948, to Benjamin and Phyllis White. His early years were spent in Massachusetts where he enjoyed summer trips to visit family in Georgia and little league baseball. Richard relocated with his family to Phoenix Arizona at the age of thirteen. Richard served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war as a supply sergeant. He spent 12 months in Vietnam. Richard began working at a local bank which led to a career in computer programming. He was an entrepreneur at heart who owned and operated a family business for close to twenty years. Upon retirement he enjoyed playing golf, playing in Texas hold’em tournaments and traveling and exploring with his wife and grandchildren within the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America and Europe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin H. White and Phyllis M. White.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary White, his daughters Deborah (Emmons), her spouse Gary W. Emmons Jr of Mesa, Margaret (Rodrigue) of Missouri, his sibling Beverly M. Thompson of Mesa, three grandchildren: Gary W. Emmons III, Chelsea Garlock of Mesa, Benjamin Rodrigue of Missouri, and four great grandchildren: Falynn, Renley, Kroyd Garlock of Mesa, and Gunner Emmons of San Tan Valley.
A memorial service will be held Saturday January 7, 2023, at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa, Arizona 85206 at 10:30 a.m., lunch reception to follow at The Highlands at Brentwood Clubhouse, 120 N. Val Vista Dr. Mesa, Arizona 85213.
