Richard was born on May 14, 1937, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Dr. Ernest and Lola (Laufman) Svoboda. He grew up in a close-knit community where he met his future wife, Beverly Baker, daughter of Abram and Velma Baker. Richard and Beverly's love story blossomed, leading to their marriage on August 23, 1959, in Beatrice. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to one another. A graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law, Richard chose a path in real estate, where he built a successful career spanning several decades. In Nebraska, he co-owned a residential brokerage, demonstrating a passion for helping others find their homes. His interest in real estate extended beyond his career; he was an avid real estate investor, a passion he continued to pursue even after he and Beverly retired to Gold Canyon, Arizona, in 2002.
Richard was a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to Nebraska football, where he could always be found cheering on the Cornhuskers on game days. Beyond his professional pursuits and sports enthusiasm, Richard and Beverly shared a deep love for travel, exploring countless destinations across America and around the world. Their travels were filled with rich experiences, cherished memories, and the joy of discovering new places together. Above all, Richard valued time spent with family, nurturing the bonds that meant so much to him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, his daughters Lynn Shanks, Julie Svoboda, and Anne Svoboda, his brother Ron Svoboda (Camy), and his five adoring grandchildren – Paige, Lauren, Mikayla, Sarah, and Harry. Richard's legacy is one of love, integrity, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
