Paul Alden Hammer

Paul was born on April 26, 1968 at the French Hospital in Los Angeles California to Harold and Mary Hammer. His mother Mary was a devoted Den Mother and with her guidance Paul chalked up many awards in the Boy Scouts. Early on it was clear Paul had a passion for football; the Pittsburgh Steelers have been Paul’s team since grade school. After graduating from Narbonne High School, class of 1986, where he was quarterback of his football team, Paul enrolled for a brief period of time at Los Angeles Harbor College studying Liberal Arts, Journalism and later on earning a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources. In 1987 Paul made the decision to join the Army and was stationed in Wildflecken, Germany; one of many re-enlistments.

Paul served two tours of duty in Iraq, was injured on his way to Afghanistan and medically retired from the Army in 2013 as Sergeant Paul Hammer; Human Resources Specialist in El Paso, Texas. During his service Paul received the following awards; an Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars, Four Army Commendation medals, Two Army Achievement Medals, A Valorous Unit Award, Four Army Good Conduct Awards, A National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, A Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Two Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, An Army Service Ribbon, Three Overseas Service Ribbons, A Combat Action Badge, An Expert Marksmanship Badge with Carbine Bar, A Driver & Mechanic Badge with Driver-Wheeled Vehicles, A US Flag for Service in Kuwait/ Iraq and his Army Retirement Pin.

Paul was predeceased by his mother; Mary Hammer, his grandmother; Anna Zupkov, His Uncle; Harold Fax, his Aunt; Elizabeth Anna, and his father; Harold Hammer.

Paul is survived by; His son Brandon Hammer, daughter-in-law Jessica Hyer and Grandchildren Izabella and Omari Hammer; Aunts Teresa Pizzi, Linda Hammer-Duty, Sandy Winthrow; Uncles Rusty Shield and Michael Duty;Cousins Steve & Kim Fax, Joseph Fax, Marianne Fry, Jason Hammer and Ken Pafford ; Niece Priscilla Sanchez and Great Niece Alexandria Garcia; And his Sister, Elizabeth Hammer.

A funeral is scheduled for February 4th 2022 9:00am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024. Condolences can be sent to [email protected].
