Patricia (Pat) Marie Boylan, 82, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2022, in Mesa, AZ with both her children, Jeff, and Susanne, by her side. She was born June 12, 1940, in Deming, NM to Carl Oscar Hoagland and Roberta Marie (Franey) Hoagland. She had two sisters and one brother; Carole Hoagland Radosevich, Mary Virginia (Ginger) Hoagland Wolf (deceased) and Carl Robert Hoagland (deceased).
Pat met the love of her life, Roger G. Boylan MD, in Fort Bayard, NM where she was an RN and Roger was practicing internal medicine at the VA Hospital. They married and moved to Tempe in 1963, where they built their forever home and raised their two children. Pat and Roger were married for 48 beautiful years, until Roger’s passing in 2011. In the early years, Pat kept continually active in the Tempe/Mesa community, including, but not limited to many hours of volunteer work at Desert Samaritan, now Banner Desert, as well as serving as Den Mother for Jeff’s Boy Scout troop and Campfire Leader for Susanne’s Campfire Girls of America. Pat kept both the kids active in sports with baseball, flag-football, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, track and field, cheer, and never missed a game. In fact, when Susanne’s cheer team did not have an assigned cheer coach at Tempe High, she took the entire group in the family station wagon up to NAU Cheer Camp. Imagine spending 3 hours each way with six 15-year-old girls!
As the kids grew older, Pat went back to work part-time at ASU, she was a devoted Sun Devil fan. Roger was the medic for the ASU football fans, and Pat and the kids were on the sidelines for every home football game. Pat and Roger continued to be season ticket holders, even after retirement. Pat and Roger started a long-time tradition in the early 1970’s of spending the summers with the kids on Balboa Island. Soon after their first trip, family members would join them and the wonderful memories began, and to this day has been a beloved destination for many generations. One of Pat’s greatest joys was her family; not only being an incredible Mom to Jeff (Sandy) and Susanne (Kirk), but also her two beautiful granddaughters, Allie, and Madisyn (Carlos) and great-grandson Mateo and knowing another little one is on his way in December 2022. Pat’s memory will forever live in the hearts of the many families and friends that loved her so much. Services will be held privately.
