Norman L. Pennington died on August 5, 2020, in Mesa, AZ, at the age of 79. He was born on April 15, 1941, in Madera, CA, to parents Betty Hansen Pennington and Clyde “Penny” Pennington. They brought him home to the Pennington Ranch in Coarsegold, CA. His grandfather, Julius Hansen, started the ranch when he emigrated from Denmark with his daughters Betty, Edith, and Mary. While Norman was growing up he learned to “fix things and make things” that were needed. This led to getting his degree in mechanical engineering at Fresno State College in 1966. While in college he held many interesting summer jobs: Cal Forestry as a firefighter, deliveryman in Yosemite, and two summers as a Madera County Deputy Sheriff at Bass Lake. He met his wife Joyce at a New Year's Eve dance at Bass Lake and they were married in 1963. He graduated from Sierra High School and Fresno State. He started working at Westinghouse Marine Division in the missile handling and testing department in Sunnyvale, CA. He retired in May 1995 as engineering manager. After his retirement he and Joyce started RVing the United States. In 2001 they sold their home in San Jose and went on the road full time for five years. They visited all the states except Hawaii as well as all the lower provinces of Canada. In 2006, they bought a home in Cottonwood, AZ. In 2019 they moved to Mesa, AZ, to be closer to family. He is survived by his wife Joyce; son Bryan and wife Kathleen in New Jersey; son Greg and his wife Diane in Tempe, granddaughters Amanda and Lauren, two step-grandchildren Kristina and Dale and one step-great-granddaughter Olive; his brother Dale and wife Kathie. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
